How to "OPTIMIZE" Your Nonprofit's Fundraising Results
Dear Nonprofit Professional,
We know. You're concerned about fundraising in today's economy. Fact is, you're probably feeling the pinch right now.
Make no mistake about it. There's a dramatic shift in fundraising dollars from government, corporations, foundations, and individuals. But here's the good news...
There's never been a better time to improve your fundraising results than it is today, if you know the secret!
The "Winning" Fundraising Formula
So, here's the secret...
...while fundraising might be your first priority, it does not come first.
Many nonprofits fail at fundraising, because they skip the pre-steps that nourish successful fundraising: planning, marketing, and public relations. So they end up begging for money instead of offering opportunities. How disappointing! Failure as a result of not understanding the fundraising process is completely avoidable.
How nonprofit professionals can close the gap between fundraising effort and fundraising results
by effectively using the right process
On top of understanding the fundraising process, it's important not to try to run too "lean and mean." This can often cause you to make wrong decisions. Also, you might often do tasks that could have been done cheaper, better and faster by specialists.

Is your non-profit on the list for revocation?
From the IRS: Tax-exempt organizations that do not satisfy annual filing requirements for three consecutive years automatically lose their tax-exempt status. The IRS is providing one-time relief for such organizations that have filing due dates on or after May 17 and before October 15, 2010.
The list includes organizations for which the IRS does not have a record of a required annual filing for 2007 and 2008, and whose 2009 return, due on or after May 17 and before October 15, 2010, has not yet been received.
The list, which was generated on June 30, 2010, includes only organizations with an annual filing requirement. Certain exempt organizations are exempt from this requirement. See Annual Exempt Organization Return: Who Must File.
Here is Pennsylvania's List
The list may be incomplete, as certain organizations may be at risk of automatic revocation even if their names do not appear on these lists:
Subordinates in group rulings for which the parent has not filed a required group return; Very small section 501(c)(3) public charities not required to file an application for exemption; Other section 501(c) organizations not required to file an application for exemption. These organizations should check their records and determine whether they are at risk of automatic revocation because they have not satisfied annual filing requirements.
Small businesses, charities face more reporting rules
An associate, Steve Packer, CPA, says to gear up for higher levels of compliance for 1099 reporting. He advises, "Get your systems ready now or risk increased penalties." Read more...
